The Kenyan
music industry has really taken a great leap, it has really improved, from the
low quality videos to HD and sensible, genres at least you can relax and listen
to the music. The hip hop, Afro pop has
really changed in this part of southern Sahara.
To be
frank I enjoy music a lot and I know a hit when I listen to one such music. I must
admit that there are some artists still struggling to find their niche signatures.
But the likes of KaKa Sungura(Rabbit ) and Visita Seem to be having fun when
doing their thing. I am an ardent fun of East African Music from Kigali’s King James,
Knowless , Uganda’s Chameleon, Maurice Kirya , Tanzania’s Alikiba ,Lady Jdee amongst
others , Coming to 254 . Allow me to be biased today on one artist, he leaves
me in stiches whenever I do listen to his songs.

The song’s title is “Mapepo" by Visita , His single produced by Grandpa records released in late
2014 , it is a hilarious one, high
definition and portrayed high level of professionalism and on point on societal
issues . The lyrics mostly talks about marriage, women’s role in a marriage, and
the bad spirits (mapepo) affecting the young Generation and even older ones
.
.
In
his second verse
“Bibi Yako Ka Shughulika, Analeta Perepepe (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Anapika Na Kameshika, Unampimia Unga, Vipi? (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Unamtesa Amevumilia, Unajida Umemea Pembe, (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Kazi Kwako Nikulewa Ukirudi Nymubani Unadai Sembe (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Kanakuonyesha Madharau (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Vumilia Usijali (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Siku Moja Atakuja Ku Learn The Hard Way, Mwenyewe Ajiambie, (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Usitusi Mzazi (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Usidharau Manzi (Hayo Ni Mapepo)
Na Mtu Wangu Ukiendelea Ndio Utajua Uko Na Shetani,
Na Hayo Ni Ma.....
”

Fukuza Mapepo, Riswa,
He
focuses on the bad habits of some men who don’t support their women, yet they
binge drink. He further touches on the respect one should adorn to their women
be it a girlfriend or a wife. He mentions respecting one’s parents. The chorus
is based on some of African religious Churches
How
one chases away the bad spirits. They use the word Riswa . truly I don’t even
know the meaning of that word , except that when I was young I use to witness
the whole parade of the of ardent believers chasing away the bad spirits and
talking in Tongues when they were high on Spirits “not alcohol”.
The
song is so hilarious and sensible. Giving tips on how to survive the hardships
in the relationship this is by “Ku Fukuza mapepo” (chasing a way the bad
spirits).
